The next day, we found the house we’ve lived in since moving here eight years ago, and it’s right near town. But my gut was literally telling me there was something wrong with that decision, as much as we thought it was a wonderful idea.Īs weird as we felt about doing it, my husband called the owner back and explained my immediate gut feeling to him. The second after we secured a one-year rental on Willis Lane, I had the sensation of a lead weight in the pit of my stomach. We thought we’d move out to that area, it was so special to us. Two weeks there each summer and we were ready to drop everything and move to Orcas. and every 3rd Friday at 5 p.m.When we were tourists, we used to rent a surprisingly affordable vacation house right on the water, just a few doors down from Lieber Haven. The gold medal winners are: Gib and Lia Black – a father/daughter team from Friday Harbor – in both the mixed doubles (A division) AND open doubles brackets Mark Fossenier and Marcie Moore of Seattle in mixed double (B division) Christine Lee and Maggie Kulyk of Orcas Island in the women’s doubles. The events include Mixed Doubles (two divisions) on Saturday, Open Doubles and Women’s Doubles. While there were some clear winners in the pickleball brackets, the big winners were the Family Resource Center, who will receive half of the donations – and islanders seeking an education in the trades with the Rotary scholarship fund receiving the other half of the $5,600 raised. The Orcas Island Rotary Club’s Pickleball Tournament hosted more than 30 teams in a full weekend of friendly competition August 6 – 7 at Buck Park.
